We are now nomads.
How did we get here? That’s a longer story, but the basics are simple. God said He wanted us to build a homestead in NE Tennessee AND care for the family.
Are either of us from Tennessee? No.
Does our family live in Tennessee currently? Also, no.
The question we were asked the most was “Why Tennessee?” Our answer was always simple – God said go, so we said yes. Every time that God has asked us to do something and we do it without question (that doesn’t happen every time), He blesses us extraordinarily. This time, He asked us to sell everything and basically start over, and we said yes. So here we go!

When God said it was time to go, we started making decisions on EVERYTHING. Katie resigned from her position, which was tough for her because she loved the people she worked with across the whole university. We traded in the Murano for a truck, since we knew we were going to get a fifth wheel. She was set on a Ford and wanted a F-350 Lariat so there were no issues pulling the rig. We went with the motto, “go big or go home”, and God blessed us with an incredible truck for an incredible price that was exactly what she wanted. Katie drove it daily to get used to the width, since it’s a dually. She is absolutely in love with this truck and named it Lil’ Pearl.

We spent an abundance of time and research to choose a RV manufacturer (Grand Design) and the floor plan we wanted (390RK). We found an authorized dealer in Tulsa and worked with them in ordering the new rig to be ready for pickup as soon as we sold the house. We decided to name the rig Maverick because we knew we were going to have some fun adventures during this season, and the name actually means “free spirit”.

Now, we know life will still have challenges and it will not be easy, but we know there is a purpose and there will be an adventure. So, after taking years to complete a full remodel on our almost 3400 sq. ft. home in Tulsa, we sold it and all the furniture inside. We packed up what would be used in the camper (basically clothes and kitchen/bathroom stuff), and then organized the photo albums, sentimental valued items, large tools, and Katie’s 34 boxes of Christmas decorations (that’s a legitimate number) into a small trailer for storage. We closed on our house on a Monday and picked up Maverick on Tuesday, and tried to figure out how to make everything fit. Now we are nomads and ready for whatever life throws at us. We are living in 1/10 of the space we used to have, but Tigger is in heaven, because it’s like a car ride that doesn’t end!
Our sharing will mostly be blogs and photos shared since we are not the fabulous #happilyeverhanks or the Today is Someday crew, or any of the other full-time RVers who make great videos to watch. We shall see if that changes in the future! Live vicariously through our funny moments, epic fails, and adventures of every size as we figure out this new life of being full-time RVers following God wherever He goes.
