The house was sold, furniture gone, and we now had dates to book a place in Tennessee to stay for some unknown period of time. It wasn’t simple to search and call around when we didn’t have dates to arrive or leave, so we left that until the last moment. Looking through the options, it was proving to be difficult to fit Maverick’s 42′, and find availability. Stumbling upon one listing that was so unique, even if they didn’t show availability, I felt very strong about this being our place to stay. Thankfully, they had a spot for us!

Lazy Llama Campground in Chuckey, TN is a small campground with just over 40 spots total and is located next to a llama farm. While it used to be the same owner and there were visits and hay rides the campers could take, that is no longer offered. However, the llamas are still there, just on the other side of the wire fence and are consistently out grazing. The location is just off the highway, and the camp manager talked me through the best way to come in and park in our very long, pull-through (easier to park than backing in) spot. The manager allowed us to add another week onto our stay since we didn’t know our time frame around the broken fridge drama.
We knew we were in the right place when a micro-burst storm hit the next day that had 70mph winds. God has always talked to Greg through significant weather events, for those who didn’t know. Thankfully, no one was hurt and only one camper was slightly damaged (insurance covered the whole repair). Greg and I jumped in immediately to help trim downed trees and pick up debris. The storm broke off a large branch from a huge tree, that they had to take down completely. One sweet family used the stump to make a fairy village – love this creativity! Working side by side with a few of the residents, allowed us to make some new friendships that grew the longer we stay there. So grateful for how God works in every situation!
Tigger has loved the wide open spaces to run, play frisbee and ball, and is very intrigued by the llamas. One day, there was a llama decently close to the fence and when we walked over, Tigger had a staring contest with it. Of course I took a picture.
In the time it took me to take said picture, Tigger had snuck around behind me, and lunged at it from my other side. He was on a leash, but I still had my phone up and it made for a funny picture!

Tigger still tried to get at the llamas every once in a while, but we keep telling him he will get spit on. I think Tigger has claimed the campground as his own and the llamas close to the fence are encroaching on his territory that he is determined to guard. Silly dog, lol.
With the fridge drama, we decided to stay a bit longer and it was more economical to move from a “weekender” spot to an open-ended lease spot, or what I called “long-term storage”. The spot that happened to be open was right around our new friends! Again, I love how God works to bless us!
The campground is good, but it’s the Camp Managers, Gareth and Jessica, that make it special and carry the spirit of hospitality for the business. They are friendly and welcoming, they work hard to keep the property maintained, from growing the gardens and cleaning the bathrooms, to mowing the lawns. They are a gem of a couple and this campground is blessed to have such incredible caretakers. We are so grateful God led us to stay here to be surrounded by some great residents who were very helpful with all of our newbie questions. We stayed here until we left for Florida, and are already looking forward to heading back to the area!!
