Off the Beaten Path

Something we both looked forward to in coming to this area, was hiking. I downloaded the All Trails app and found some in this area to try out. Neither of us are new to hiking, but we haven’t been able to do much hiking while in Tulsa. The first time, it was just Tigger and I, so I chose a ‘moderate’ trail that Tigger wouldn’t have too many issues.

He has his own backpack to carry his collapsible water bowl and poop bags. He was excited getting into the Jeep (loves car rides) and then when he saw his backpack, he was even more excited. Being such a good dog, he stayed on the leash until we were a half mile along the path. No seeing any other hikers, I let him off the leash and he was quick to lead me down the path, up the rock climbs, and over the water ways (stopping for a drink of course). Never once did he run out into the woods, or get too far ahead of me. I am so grateful he is such a good dog!

We hiked about 6 miles, round trip, to a pretty, but small waterfall. It was so quiet and serene that we just sat and enjoyed the solitude. On the way out, we found a small house on private property that someone actually lived in. I never knew you could purchase property within a national forest! I had no idea how they brought in the supplies to build it because the only road going in and out was only wide enough for an ATV.

We loved the hike so much, we brought Greg the next time. Tigger went a little further ahead since he knew the trail now, and when I turned the wrong direction calling him back, he turned and looked at me like I was crazy. Glad I listened to the dog so we didn’t get lost!

We are very excited to return in the late winter and get our hiking boots dirty again!
