Tennessee Eats

I love food. Seriously.

From eating around the world, literally and Epcot, we love to find local places to experience the local eats. While in TN, we have found so much peace with eating at home since we didn’t do that as much the last year of being in Tulsa (too busy). However, we did find some unique (good and bad) places to enjoy.

Alongside Rheatown, one of the tourist places we were told to experience was The Farmer’s Daughter. They serve dinner family-style, so we picked our two meats and all the sides came with it in small portions. Anything we wanted more of, we just asked our sweet server. It was good, but not great, and while there wasn’t really room I had a few bites of the peanut butter pie – that was phenomenal and I should have started with dessert!

Another time, we tried the newly opened Southern Craft BBQ. It was crazy packed, so we opted for something to go and ate in the comfort of our home. The food was spectacular and we would definitely do this again. Greg got a half chicken, all dark, and I got the chopped chicken dish. Let’s be honest, the meat was good, but the homemade barbeque sauce was the highlight. I wonder if they sell bottles of it….

We went on a drive to see the Fall leaves towards Hot Springs, NC. It is a VERY small town that thrives off tourism from where it is set into the mountains and the Appalachian Trail. While tourists can go rafting or hiking on warm days, we opted for an early dinner at the famous Iron Horse Station. Not going into detail, but our experience was not the best, and I would not recommend this place. The vibe and quality of food was just not there for us. Maybe we are food snobs? Again, the vibe…

We didn’t linger, and wandered over to where we could hear live music playing to help redeem our Hot Springs trip. Big Pillow Brewery offered a courtyard of picnic tables with a small stage at the back where 2 guys where playing – guitar and keyboard. We picked out some local brews and settled in for the music. The beers were great, the music wasn’t. The music wasn’t horrible, but we didn’t stay ones our glasses were empty.

The scenery was pretty though, so we would consider coming back to hike this area!
