Country Pickin’

I am so glad we found a local place to listen to Bluegrass music!

On Saturday nights, locals and pickers alike converge on the Rheatown Store for dinner and music. One of the full-timers, Sam, where we were staying had found this place since he played the banjo. We had no idea what to expect, but showed up around 6pm the next Saturday night. We ordered chicken philly cheesesteak sandwiches from the counter and found a place amongst the hodge-podge of tables in the small dining area to sit. Just beyond that little room, was another small room filled with chairs.

Small talk was made with the locals around us, who loved that we were joining them that night. Dinner was delivered and I swear that was the best chicken philly I have ever had in my life (drooling with the memory). I just inhaled it without getting a picture (sorry!). The couple who owns this place are so friendly and hospitable, it’s everything you would expect from a country store and deli.

Slowly, people started moving into the next room and either opening up their cases to play or finding chair to watch. Nothing was planned and you had no idea who was going to show up. Some nights there was only a small group and other nights, pickers took up the whole room (or even store). There is no set playlist and no guarantee a certain instrument would be there, just a fabulous bluegrass jam session. We loved every minute!

We have loved coming to hear them play every weekend so much, we bought a acoustic guitar and Greg is going to get back into playing while I attempt to teach myself! New hobbies!

Along with music, they do craft events! They had these incredible wreaths hanging from the wall that I really wanted to learn how to make.

Since we weren’t going to be in town for that class, I absolutely found instructions on a few Pinterest sites and made my own. It’s a wire wreath ring, Mesh ribbon in 2 colors, and wired ribbon in various designs, all tied together with pipe cleaners and jingle bells. It turned out so pretty!

If you are ever in the area of Chuckey, TN, definitely check out Rheatown!!
