Tigger’s Beach Vacation

We already knew that Tigger was a huge fan of snow. Greg had him in Colorado when it was below zero and at least a foot of snow on the ground, and Tigger did not want to come inside. He was living up to his name and bouncing through the snow.

As well, he’s never been a fan of the heat. He gets sluggish around 85 degrees and acts like it’s a sauna outside. Dramatic much?

It was a nice day, high 70s, and a bit windy out, so we thought it would be a perfect day for Tigger to experience more than a shallow river. Just south of where we were staying is a well-known dog beach, Walton Rocks, in Martin County. It was easy to access and there were so many dogs the Saturday we went! He got a little curious at the jellyfish that washed ashore, but thankfully (for him), he ignored it.

The first time the tide came in, Tigger ran from it. So, Greg walked deeper into the surf to show Tigger it was okay. Tigger played a little bit of ball in the foamy part of the surf, but it never got higher than his ankle/knee area (do dogs have ankles?). We spent about an hour there, Greg playing with Tigger in the surf while I stayed dry on the sand (that water was cold!). I thought that would be all the ocean Tigger would experience, but then a puppy came playing down the beach.

It was a little black lab 10-month old puppy, whose human would through the ball into the shallow surf, the dog would swim out to retrieve it, and then meet his human further up the beach. Tigger wanted this ball more than his, so he went into the surf until his belly got wet, then freaked out. However, he did it a few more times, until one of the little breaker waves was bigger than the others and rolled him up the beach. He was seriously shocked and we were laughing at/with him. I wish I would have gotten that on video!

The puppy left and Tigger was over this adventure, so Greg took him over to the hoses and washed him off as best as he could and carried him back to the Jeep to dry him off. Tigger was not amused by that part. He was covered in sand and salt spray still, so we stopped by Tractor Supply on the way home and he got a THOROUGH bath. Again, Tigger was not amused with this part.

Did you know that for $10, you can shampoo, condition, towel dry (they provide), and air dry your furry four-legged child? He came home exhausted, clean, and slept for 12 hours after eating dinner.

All in all, it was a good time and we will more then likely bring him back for another Beach Vacation.
